PERRY, .Lock Bx Charlotte, If. C. aug80 ' IS THAT SOI At a convention of tbe Liberal and Republican parties held at Scotland Neck la3t Saturday week, Mr. J. C. L. Harris, secretary of the Republican State executive committee, was sent as an embassador from Raleigh, "to im press upon the convention the import ance of recognizing the liberal element of the Democratic party." In his speech he said "this element was composed of such men as Reid, Clingman, Day and others, vyho had renounced their alle giance to the Democratic party. That they would all be Republicans before the campaign ended, and in November, if the vote was counted as cast, the State would go Republican by 25,000 majority and Bourbon Democracy would be buried so deep that the hand of resurrection could never reach it Well, we'll see about that. We have had a good deal to say about "machine" politics, and we are bitterly opposed to "bourbonic" Democracy; and so are thousands of honest Democrats through out the State, but we can and will sink our individual opinions, in the one grand effort to keep the State of North Carolina out of the hands of the Radi cal party. No, Mr. Harris, we won't "all be Republicans before the campaign ends." We will present the same solid pholanx that has so ofter met and re pulsed the old Republican party, and after we have done that we will settle the differences between ourselves. NEWS NOTES. Among the latest commissions issued by Act ing Postmaster-General Hatton is one to "Bill Nye" lately appointed post master at Laramie City, VV. T. Nye is the editor of a paper called The Dai ly Boomerang. In accepting the nomi nation he says: Laramie City, W. T , Aug. 25, 1882. To My Dear General: I have re ceived the news by telegram of my nomination and confirmation as post master at Laramie; and wish to extend my thanks for the same. I have order ed an entirely new set of boxes and postoffice outfit, including new corruga ted cuspidores for the use of clerks. I look upon the appo'n' ment of myself asa triumph of eternal truth over error and wrong. It is one of the epochs, as I may say, in the nation's onward march toward political purity and perfection. I don't know when I have noticed any stride in the affairs of State which t o thoroughly impressed me with its wis dom. Now that we are co-workers in the same department, I trust that ytu will not feel shy or backward in con sulting me at any time relative to mat ters concerning Post Office Department affairs. Be perfectly frank with me, and perfectly free to bring anything of that kind right to me. Do not feel re luctant because I may appear at times cold and reserved. Perhaps you think I do not know the difference between a general delivery window and a three em quad, but that is a mistake. My general information is far beyond those of my years. With profoundest regards, I remain sincerely yours, BILL NYE, P. M. Railroad Mileage.
